Flood Damage: Plymouth Street in Norwich
This is the Red Mill Road bridge over Canasawacta Creek at the foot
of Plymouth Street in Norwich. The bridge connects to Red Mill Road
which leads - or used to lead - up the hill to Route 10. The small tree
used to be at least a dozen feet from the creek. Before the storms, the
ground sloped downwards to meet the water.
The debris in the creek to the right of the base of the tree is cement from the bridge's supports. Because of the damage the bridge was declared to be unsafe, and it was removed on May 6th, 2011. There is question about whether the bridge will be replaced.
In the meantime, we will miss the Red Mill Road bridge, for both the scenery, and the time saved going all the way to West Main.
